Object 11 from the For The Home-ies series:
The Jozi Chess Set, inspired by Joburg’s skyline and the landmarks that shape the city. From Ponte and the Hillbrow Tower to Mandela Bridge and Carlton Centre, each piece reimagines a building or structure as part of the game.
As a big fan of chess, I’ve always wanted to make my own set so I conceptualised, modelled, 3D printed and laser-engraved this from start to finish. The result is both a proper playable game and a display piece, turning Jozi into a battlefield of strategy and pride while showing how our everyday surroundings can be turned into objects with story, function and craft.
